DEPARTMENTS

Your Hospital Stay While you are hospitalized, you will come in
contact with a variety of health care professionals. Physicians, nurses,
aides, lab and x-ray technicians, orderlies, physical therapists,
housekeepers, volunteers, and other personnel are all here to assist you
in any way they can. Our credentialing committee has carefully
screened each physician who practices at L.A. Metropolitan Medical Center.
As a member of our medical staff, your doctor is responsible for your
clinical treatment and will arrange for medications, special diet, tests,
laboratory work, or special treatments. Your doctor may also request that
other specialists and medical professionals treat you during your hospital
stay.
Admission to the HospitalOur Admitting Department is open 24
hours a day, seven days a week. It is located on the main floor, off the
lobby area. For specific questions or detailed information not covered
here, please contact an Admitting Specialist at (323) 730-7350.
Pre-admission registration or scheduled
admissions We recommend that you bring some form of
identification, your insurance card, and if applicable, the written
orders or pre-admission form you received from your physician. If you
are being admitted, please leave your valuables at
home.
Insurance Coverage For information
regarding your covered services and benefits, please contact your
insurance carrier or employer. Some insurance carriers offer limited
benefits or require that you obtain pre-admission authorization. You are
primarily and ultimately responsible for all charges and bills incurred
during your stay. Our insurance verifiers will be pleased to assist you

Financial
Arrangements Patients without insurance coverage may
consider a financial arrangement. If you have any concerns about
financing your hospital care, please contact our Admitting
Director.
Outpatient Testing
Registration Prior to your outpatient test, please contact
the appropriate department to schedule your appointment. Remember to
bring all written orders received from your physician and your insurance
card. Your physician's office will advise you if a referral or
pre-certification is required prior to your outpatient test. On the date
of your outpatient test, please register at the Admitting Department
located in the main lobby. After registration, you will be directed to
the appropriate area.
Your Accommodations
& Safety Our patient rooms are designed to meet the
highest standards of quality, comfort, safety, and
convenience.
Bed Your hospital bed can be
easily adjusted for your comfort.
Nurse Call
System Whenever you need assistance, simply press the call
button.
Television The control of your
television set is on the call
button.
Telephone To place a local call in area
code 323, first dial "9", then dial the telephone number you wish to
reach. For other area codes and to place long distance calls, please use
the pay phones located within your nursing
unit.
Valuables You should leave jewelry, large
sums of money, and other valuables at home. If you have brought valuables
with you and cannot send them home with a family member or friend, you can
ask your nurse to have them stored in the medical center
safe.
Smoking L.A. Metropolitan Medical Center
is proud to be a non-smoking facility. Smoking by patients, guests,
employees, and medical staff is not allowed anywhere within the
hospital.
Cafeteria The Visitor and Employee
cafeteria is located on the 1st floor of the Los
Angeles Campus and on the lower level at the Hawthorne Campus. Both cafeterias are open seven
days a week. A variety of hot entrees, cold foods, and snack items are
available.
Convenience foods are also available 24 hours a day from
vending machines located in the cafeteria. The machines offer a selection
of snacks and cold beverages.
Pastoral
Care Acknowledging that a patient's psychosocial, spiritual,
and cultural values may affect their response to care, the medical center
respects the rights of all patients, their families, and loved ones to
receive spiritual and emotional support. The clergy is welcome to visit,
and members of the health care team can help patients to contact clergy if
they are not already affiliated with a local congregation.
Visiting Hours Visits from family members and friends greatly
enhance the healing process. Our visiting hours are designed to provide
patients with maximum rest and recovery time. Visitors are limited to TWO
AT A TIME. Children ages 12 and under are not allowed to visit patient
areas of the hospital, except with prior permission. Children waiting in
the lobby must be under adult supervision at all times.

- Critical Care Unit
Visiting hours and length of
time for each visit will be left to the discretion of the nursing staff.
Visits are limited to immediate family members or significant others.
Gifts of food, live flowers, or plants are not accepted in the Critical
Care Unit.
- Geriatric Psychiatry Unit (L.A. Campus)
Monday
through Friday: 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00
p.m. Weekends and Holidays: 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Adult Psychiatry Unit (Hawthorne Campus)
Monday
through Friday: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Weekends and Holidays: 2:00
p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. If special
arrangements are needed to visit outside the scheduled visiting hours or
if small children will be visiting, please make arrangements prior to the
visit with the Charge Nurse. For safety reasons, all belongings and gifts
must be checked by the nursing staff.
